Helen Gyselynck BSc MRICS
Helen’s first job in property was as a Student Surveyor in Manchester
in the 1970’s. She obtained a degree in Estate Management and qualified
as a Chartered Surveyor in the early 1980’s. Her property experience encompasses
employment in Local Authorities, in a large London practice, and in industry.
In her early years as a Chartered Surveyor Helen worked mainly in commercial
and industrial property where she specialised in large commercial valuations
for Pension Funds and on landlord and tenant work. More recently, Helen has
worked in smaller general practice firms and advised on planning matters, development
valuations and property management before concentrating on residential valuations
as this specialism has enabled her to work part time which is more suited to
the demands of being a busy mother.
Helen moved to the island in 1996 with her husband and two children where she has continued to specialise in residential valuations for mortgages and RICS Homebuyer reports. However, she has found that the wide range of experience gained over a varied career in property is ideally suited to the island as her background knowledge has proved helpful in advising on a range of properties issues.
Helen is a former chairman of the Isle of Man Chartered Surveyors and is still
an active committee member. In her younger days she was an officer in the Territorial
Army, an external tutor for Valuation students at the College of Estate Management
and was also a magistrate before moving to the Island. She now relaxes by playing
golf at Peel and is an active member of the Isle of Man Yacht Club.
